Melissa grew up in Colorado and Oregon before her family moved to Fort Worth during middle school. After living in over 15 different places, she settled in Austin in 2013 to obtain a Master’s degree in School Psychology at Texas State University. On a visit to her hometown of Cleburne, Texas she discovered partner dancing for the first time, and a short time later, with two years of amatuer competition experience and five years as a special education school teacher, Melissa combined her loves of dancing and teaching by joining the Go Dance Instructor Training Program in 2015. She now teaches dance full-time while continuing to pursue her competitive passions dancing in the UCWDC pro/pro division with Go Dance instructor Richard Dugger.

“Through dance, I discovered my extroverted side and gained so much confidence! I love building relationships and helping my students unearth different parts of themselves as they explore dance.”

Melissa’s experience as a special education teacher translates to a tremendous amount of patience, and a true understanding that everyone learns differently. She considers it her personal mission to find how each of her students learns best and teach to their natural learning style. She enjoys working with youth and adults alike. As a self-described “superfan” of romance, Melissa also delights in working with couples on their first dance for their wedding, helping them create special memories through moving together.

Off the dance floor, Melissa loves to read sci-fi and fantasy, and is an avid movie fan (including Star Wars, Harry Potter and Dr. Who, just to name a few).
