David Abril was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. His interest in dance was sparked after being inspired by watching some local Swing dancers. He signed up for classes and lessons in 2004, became hooked, and in a short time went from being a student to a performer and teacher.

David's first experience as a performer came when he joined Jazzy Dance Company, an accomplished Salsa Dance Company that performed around the country. Wishing to challenge himself further, he started teaching at Go Dance in 2007. With Jazzy Dance Company, David and fellow Go Dance instructor Barbara Lucke placed 2nd in the 2007 Texas Salsa Open Couples Division. David also won 2nd place in the 2008 Texas Salsa Open Team Division, and took 3rd place in the 2008 World Salsa Open Team Division. David is a well-rounded dancer who is currently competing in Country and West Coast Swing. He loves performing Spotlight routines with his students in Showcase and DJing at our Latin parties!

Prior to his life as a dancer and teacher, David was a champion distance runner who attended Stanford University where he ran for their highly ranked cross country and track teams. He applies the same level of discipline to training his mind and body as both a dancer and instructor. David loves working with his students on intricate styling details and adapts to their individual learning styles. David firmly believes that dance will positively impact the lives of his students, just as it has impacted him.

Dancing, whether it's at a Salsa Congress, a Swing convention, or a night at the Country bar, brings together people from various backgrounds in a way that not many other things can. So I think dance is not only a healthy thing for individuals, but for society as well.

Dances taught: Bachata, Club Cha Cha, Merengue, Salsa, Salsa On2, Mambo, Rumba, Samba, Foxtrot, American Tango, Ballroom Waltz, Country Waltz, Nightclub, Polka, Triple Two Step, Two Step, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Jitterbug, Argentine Tango and Hustle.
