Emily Larsen was born and raised right here in wonderful Austin, Texas. She was introduced to Ballet at age five and continued adding on various dance genres over the years such as Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, and Musical Theatre. From the time she was a child, Emily knew she loved dance. Her passion for dance gives her a special spark that can be seen in her daily interactions with people, her teaching, and her beautiful dancing.Emily received a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of Texas at Austin. She had always wanted to learn how to partner dance, and was happy she finally got the chance after joining the Go Dance Administrative Client Services staff in 2010. After having competed with her partner, Go Dance instructor Darren Paul for the past year, Emily got the teaching bug. We're glad she did, as she began teaching in 2012. Her previous experience teaching Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, and Creative Movement made becoming a partner dance instructor an easy transition! As a dancer, Emily works hard to be as well-rounded as possible, and always strives to give each movement a purpose and story. Emily loves all of the American Rhythm and Country dances and constantly works at sharpening her technique. She is grateful to have the coaching and support of Milana Pliner, Gary McIntyre, David Vance, and Bernadette Carmichael. She and Darren are currently competing in the United Country Western Dance Council and American Country Dance Association circuits, and Emily is also working toward getting her DVIDA certifications. Emily is a multi-talented, vibrant "people person" who makes the studio feel like home.
Dance is something that I whole-heartedly believe brings people together in ways that nothing else does. I love introducing my students to something fun and challenging that they will have forever.
When it comes to teaching, Emily loves sharing the gift of dance with her students, getting to know their goals, and watching them progress. Emily is easily approachable, and her strong belief in dance and the power of movement is evident in everything she does. She emphasizes making the learning process fun and positive, but also keeps her lessons informative; she loves to make her students think! Emily's experience social dancing helps her know some of the most popular patterns and moves, especially in her favorite style to teach, Country Western! If you're interested in social dancing, Emily is your instructor! Emily has a special gift, as she always makes students feel welcome; she is a big part of what makes this studio such a happy, warm environment. We're lucky to have her!
